- A registered sponsor or employer and final recommendation from an authorized tradesperson.
- Grade 10 English, mathematics and science are recommended; Grade 12 is preferred.
- Training is normally delivered in full-time blocks, with approved alternative formats potentially available.
02Technical-training levelsWhat is generally covered at each stage of training.
Safety, tools, materials, basic trade mathematics, building and roof systems, fabrication, installation, pattern development, welding and soldering.
Advanced fabrication and installation, specialty metals, building-envelope assemblies, insulated panels, wall and roof cladding, drainage systems, flashings, layout and specialty components.
Advanced planning, project interpretation, complex layouts, architectural systems, work organization and quality control.
03Examinations, grading and passing requirementsSelect to view the supplied requirements and notes.
- Levels 1 and 2: in-school work is 80% of the final level result and the standardized written examination is 20%.
- At Levels 1 and 2, the in-school mark is 40% theory and 60% practical.
- Level 3 requires at least 70% in combined theory and practical training before the Certificate of Qualification examination.
- The final Certificate of Qualification examination requires at least 70%.

- Registered apprentices with substantial previous training or experience may apply to challenge Levels 1 or 2.
- Level 3 is not listed as challengeable.

- Evidence must cover the required scope and competencies.
- After approval, pass the Certificate of Qualification examination with at least 70%.
- The challenge route normally awards a Certificate of Qualification, not a Certificate of Apprenticeship.
