Safety, codes, gas properties, electrical theory and controls, piping/tubing design, burners, ignition, ventilation, air supply, planning and basic commissioning.
Advanced design, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, combustion verification, controls and service.

- Level 1 in-school: 85% theory and 15% practical; final mark is 80% in-school and 20% standardized exam.
- Level 2 in-school: 75% theory and 25% practical; no separate standardized Level 2 exam identified.
- Red Seal passing mark: 70%.

- Red Seal Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Mechanics may receive Levels 1 and 2 and up to 1,500 workplace hours.
- Maximum workplace credit is 1,500 hours.
