02Technical-training levelsWhat is generally covered at each stage of training.
Level 1

Safety, tools, measuring/layout, calculations, cutting/welding, rigging, hoisting and machinery movement.

Level 2

Shafts, bearings, seals, couplings, clutches, brakes, chain/belt drives, gears, welding and basic alignment.

Level 3

Precision alignment, pumps, compressors, fans/blowers, piping, hydraulics, pneumatics and vacuum systems.

Level 4

Conveyors, prime movers, motors, engines, turbines, predictive maintenance, commissioning, mentoring and automation.

  • Levels 1–3: 80% in-school and 20% standardized exam; in-school generally 75% theory and 25% practical.
  • Level 4 is provider-assessed and followed by the Red Seal exam.
  • Minimum 70% required.
